Shrek The Musical London
During the production of the second movie of the all time favorite – Shrek, a die hard fan Sam Mendes suggested the idea of bringing the movie to theatre. Broadway took lead in the production of Shrek and it has been hosted there since December of 2008 to January 2010. It won eight Tony Awards and including best Costume Design award in Broadway musicals.
Now, Bill Damascheke (president, Dreamworks Theatricals) abd Caro Newing (Producer, Neal Street Productions) are now collaborating in the production of the next great musical of London theatre. Shrek is scheduled to commence on May 6, 2011 at the Theatre Royal, Drury lane London and is supposed to continue up to February 19, 2012.
Shrek is the hilarious story of an Ogre who lives in a swamp in a far away kingdom and sets out on an adventure to restore the deed to his land. He is accompanied by his best friend and the ever chattering Donkey. He rescues young princess Fiona from the tethers of a fiery and love-sick giant dragon. Shrek learn in his adventure that true love and faithfulness are not merely fairy tales. Even a loving kiss can change a beautiful Fiona into the female Ogre that Shrek goes on to marry.
Shrek will be played by Nigel Lindsay – he is an experienced campaigner who has worked in film, Television and theatre, also playing a lead role in the Oliver Award winning production – The Pillowman.
Fiona has been taken by Amanda Holden – Oliver Award nominated actress Richard Blackwood is the ever chattering Donkey and Nigel Harman plays Lord farquaad (Fiona’s father and the King of the far far away land)
This performance will be the first stint at theatre productions for Dreamworks. It is based on William Steig’s book Shrek and all the beautifully dysfunctional characters of the hilarious comedy are soon going to be brought to life.
